'Benson' referred to by Col. Rosenthal below, was 2180 Gunner George Courtney
Benson of the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, hailing from Melbourne - Gnr Benson's
artistic talent would be utilised by Col. Rosenthal throughout the Gallipoli Campaign,
& would go on to become one of Australia's most recognised war artists. The above
is titled "3 minute Reconnaissance sketch - Egypt," completed on the 8th of January
1915 & detailing geographical formations around the Battery's training grounds.

Sunday 3rd January
Easy day for all units. Church parade in the
morning. Good attendance. Major Browne & Burgess completing gun
emplacements. Took Benson out during the afternoon over the manoeuvre area and
gave him instructions in Field sketching from a military point of view.
