Mena Camp
Friday
January 15 1915
Manouvering on
our grounds behind Pyramids. I was
taking No. 4 on the gun. His duties are
to load and set fuses when required and attend to aiming posts if in use. My horse is on the sick lines and the farrier
sargent took his shoe off he thinks its something wrong in the hoof but I think
it is the other horses kicking him for he gets kicked and he doesn’t kick
back. Got some mail today I got three
letters (3) and one Xmas card. The dates
are as follows; Xmas card from Flo and Betty Nov. 18. Two letters from Ada one dated 11/11/14 other
27/11/14. One letter from Flo dated Nov
20 1914. As we were coming back to camp
past the Pyramids we saw about a score of Nurses from the Hospital ship just
in. I hear that the 2nd Cont.
has landed at Alexandria.
Not feeling much better, but decided to go to
training area. Returned at 2.30. received two letters from Nell dated Nov 16th
and Nov 22nd, also Christmas card from Charley.
Layers of 7th Battery tested, 5 passed in test
"A". Talk with all O.C.s re certain points of Battery training and
discipline. Impressed on them the necessity for making their ideal
"Perfection".
Mr Phillips, tailor from Cairo, called to see me with his wife, and invited me
to go out to dinner as soon as I could find a spare night. They are friends of
Mr Chadwick, Rofe, Larcombe and Short. Very small world.
