Cooks Mate
this morning I carried water and a few bricks for the fire place then took the
breakfast to the mess room and drew the bread for our sub. and after dishing
out the grub I got ready and went out with the Battery on a off side team
horse. Got out there and our Cpl had to
take Section Commander so I was senr Gunner I had to take No. 1 and they were
practicing a Cavalry charge on the guns today.
About 20 mounted men came up from behind a crest and came full gallop at
us. We had to swing the gun around and
let drive. We got a few shots off at
them so we didn’t do too bad. Of course
in the real thing Cavalry would never got so close without us knowing about
them. Came home I dished out the supper
and carried 4 dixies of water and finished up by giving an arab half a piastre
to clean the meet dixies. Will have to
wright to Com Wealth Bank and make a draw and fix up about the pay as I am
getting 2/6 a day less.

great comfort.
