17th May 1915

The R.M.S. Franconia docked at Alexandria, on board which Major Burgess of

the 9th Battery was returned to the Gallipoli peninsula on the 17th May - Burgess

suffered shrapnel wounds in the head & neck when a H.E. shell struck Col.

Rosenthal's dug-out on the 5th May.

Enemy's OLIVE GROVE BATTERY shelled the beach heavily.

Bomb. G. R. Brown wounded at BRIGHTON BATTERY.

R.M.S. FRANCONIA anchored off ANZAC at 12.15 PM O.C. went ashore + resumed command of 9^th Battery at 6.30pm.

Lounged about all day reading. Sang a few songs in the afternoon.
